For blatant lovers of point-and-click puzzlers and Norse mythology, The Frostrune by Grimnir is a definite game to pencil in your planner.

Set in the Viking era, you find yourself shipwrecked on an island following a violent summer storm. After exploring you realise that the area was once populated, but the signs glaringly suggest that the local settlement left in a hurry. Surrounded by a dense forest filled with forgotten runes, burial mounds, and mysterious places, it's up to you to solve the island's mystery.

I'll address the elephant in the room here and just come out to say how gorgeous the art work is for The Frostrune. As with most games in the genre, its lack of action means there's less to hide behind, but Grimnir have nothing to worry about, especially since its developers are highly passionate about the subject (or, Viking nerds, if you will) – one of them even MADE Tyrving, the official The Frostrune sword. Talk about knowing your trade.

The puzzles aren't overly difficult when it comes to figuring them out, however what's really interesting about them is that each element is based off of the technology available at the time. In fact, everything about the game is historically accurate – minus its magical undertone.

The Frostrune will be a premium title, though a price hasn't yet been set, and it's looking to come out sometime before the end of this year on iOS, Android, and Steam.
