| Rodeo Stampede

Rodeo Stampede is an excellent mix of ideas, wrapped around an entertaining arcade core, drizzled with a little bit base building.

It's sort of the next logical progression of the genre that Crossy Road invented, and if you enjoyed that game then you're going to have just as much fun with this one.

Throw in a much more interesting core mechanic, and you're left with an evolution that's fun and fresh at the same time.

Rodeo, rodeo, rodeo

The main part of the game sees you lassoing a series of animals that are sprinting through a valley. You hold your finger on the screen and slide it to move around.

The twist is that the animal you're on will eventually buck you off, so you need to release your finger before it does that and jump across to another creature in the stampede.

When you're flying through the air between the beasts you can't control your movement, so you need to make sure you're in line with something else when you jump off.

The size of your lasso shrinks as you go from animal to animal as well, making each leap a little more difficult than the last.

Different animals have different speeds and skills, and you unlock new creatures by riding on them for long enough to tame them.

Animals that you capture are stored in your flying zoo. Here you can select which of them you start your run on, as well as opening up the zoo for visitors to earn you more cash. You can upgrade your pens as well, which change some of the skills and attributes of the animals in them when you run.

Wherefore art thou rodeo?

There's a neat social element to proceedings as well. You can share images of your newly captured creatures, and there are challenges to complete that push you to keep playing.

It's nice to see a game that makes you work a little harder to get new characters as well, and on top of all that you're constantly chasing your high score as well.

This is a bright and diverting arcade experience that wears its new ideas with pride. They don't all come off perfectly, but the ones that do ensure that you'll have a great time while you're playing.
