| War Tortoise

War Tortoise is a game about a tortoise that's at war. It stands there, and you control the gun mounted on its shell to mow down waves of insects and lizards.

You can add allied units to your team to help out, as well as upgrading your tortoise to make it more powerful and violent.

And eventually you can progress far enough to stop playing the game entirely. Because essentially the game is a clicker wrapped around the framework of a gallery shooter.

How does that work then?

Well it's all about the numbers. The more enemies you kill, the more cash you earn. You can then spend that cash on upgrades, new units, and additional super-powered weapons to take down bigger enemies.

Things start off as a pretty standard mobile shooter. You're essentially controlling a reticule, swiping around the screen to aim at the incoming bad guys.

You can tap to change weapons when you unlock new ones, but your units pretty much wander off on their own and kill stuff until they die.

Sometimes lumps of ore appear on screen and tapping them gives you an extra boost to your coffers. Once you've earned a bunch of gold you can spend it in a straightforward menu, then pop back to the battlefield to murder more effectively.

Eventually you'll unlock an autobattle mode. Tap a button on the screen and your tortoise will just shoot anything that moves. You still need to upgrade and buy units, but you don't have to actually look at the screen anymore.

But the numbers keep going up. And there's something decidedly pleasing about that. Look at those numbers. Look at those corpses. Look at how well you're doing even though you're not really doing anything.

So it's a casual shooter then

That's probably the best way to describe it, yeah. There's not really any challenge here, but that's not really the point.

You want to keep playing to see the new levels you unlock, add more powerful weapons to your arsenal, and earn more cash.

Fans of the shooter genre probably aren't going to find that much to enjoy here after the initial thrill of all the murders, but if you're looking for a casual game with a little more bite than usual, then there's a lot here to enjoy.

War Tortoise - War is inevitable, you don't even need to be involved

War Tortoise isn't your traditional shooter, but if you're looking for something a little more casual then you'll enjoy it
