Twofold Inc. is the latest game from the creator of the excellent Rymdkapsel. This time around rather than defending a space ship, you're trying to solve problems in a slightly weird factory.

It's basically a number puzzler that involves creating strings of doubled-up, same colour blobs to clear requests given to you by an adorable robot.

It takes a little while to get going, but once it does it reveals itself as one of the most interesting puzzlers on the App Store.

It's tough, I'll make no bones about that, but you'll be hitting restart after every failure.

It's set in a factory? Like with conveyor belts?

Nope, the factory is made up of a grid of coloured squares. Along the top of the screen you'll see requests. These requests involve a colour and a number. 8 white, for example.

Connecting together coloured squares, by drawing a line through them, doubles them up. 1 block is worth 2, 2 are worth 4, and so on. So to clear 8 white you'll need to connect 3 white blocks.

But you need to complete your requests in a set number of moves. Take too long and you'll start losing lives. Lose four lives and it's game over.

You can clear more than the number of blocks you need, but you must be able to clear all the blocks in a section to get rid of them.

You can slide blocks around in horizontal or vertical lines, but each slide counts as one of your moves. It's pretty easy to back yourself into a corner and watch your lives disappear in a matter of seconds.

At the same time, you're just as likely to get into the flow of proceedings, slicing out massive chunks of blocks to clear multiple requests at once. The balancing here is pretty much spot on.

It still sounds pretty complex

Oh it is, this certainly isn't a game for people who think Candy Crush is the be-all-and-end-all of puzzling on the App Store.

There's meat on these bones, and a cruelty that will smash your face in if you're not paying attention. Not literally.

But if you're after a puzzler that will actually make you think about each move, that's chock full of interesting ideas, and that looks bloody lovely, then Twofold Inc. is well worth a download.

A sharp and brilliantly well thought out puzzler, Twofold Inc. should be at the top of any puzzle fan's download list
