Implosion is a mobile game that shouldn't work. It's a fast-paced hack and slash adventure that, at first glance at least, feels like it should be more suited to console play.
But it's built so cleverly that it works. And in some truly impressive ways. It's not just the gorgeous graphics, it's the clever visual cues that let you know when to combo, the quick-bite levels, and the action.
Oh my word, the action. When it's in full flow Implosion feels like a top-down Bayonetta. It's super slick, violent in all the right ways, and will often leave you breathless.
There are a few dungeon crawlers on the App Store, but so many of them feel twisted to fit onto the hardware, or dumbed down in annoying ways. Implosion feels like it was built for mobile, and while it is simple, it's far from dumb.
If you like futuristic swords, big guns, and the sort of brawling that would make even the most cynical person grin, then Implosion – Never Lose Hope should definitely be on your iPhone or iPad.
