Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved, the latest in the Geometry Wars series now available on NVIDIA SHIELD, is certainly a feast for the eyes and ears, but it can also be quite challenging.

In fact, even seasoned veterans of the shooter genre will find it difficult at times, so here are a few essential techniques you can employ to claw your way through to victory or that elusive high score.

Best Foot Forward

As a twin-stick shooter, it’s possible to move in one direction while shooting in another. This will sometimes be necessary, of course, but for the most part you should try to fire in your direction of movement.

The points targets that allow you to progress to a new level are set quite high so it’s important to bump up your multipliers quickly by collecting the Geoms left behind by defeated enemies.

If you travel and shoot toward your enemies, you will automatically pick up more Geoms.

Grab the Geoms

On a related note, be sure to pick up every Geom you can. When a new wave of attackers appears on the horizon, panic can set in and it’s all too easy to head off and deal with them leaving lots of potential points multipliers behind.

Keep your cool and when possible gather up all those Geoms before you tackle the next lot of bad guys.

Smart Move

Another way to bump up your multiplier early is to keep moving around so that a large number of enemies are on the screen then deploy your smart bomb.

There will be a glorious bounty of Geoms sitting there ready for you to gobble up.

Drone Warfare

Your drones are your friends and two of them are particularly useful.

Once you get the Collect drone it takes a massive weight off your shoulders as you don’t have to expend as much energy on grabbing Geoms - the drone will do it for you.

Also, as soon as you are able to, upgrade the Turret drone. When deployed the resulting 360-degree deluge of fire will prove devastating to your enemies.

What Goes Around

The 3D maps in Dimensions Evolved not only look spectacular but they change up the gameplay.

Even if you’ve cleared out a visible part of the screen, there can be a whole lot of enemies hiding out behind the scenes so keep firing and travelling to make sure you clear up all the enemies on a single wave as quickly as possible to progress the action and score more points.

Black Holes

On the occasions when they do appear, Black Holes can be highly effective if used properly. Shoot a black hole to activate it and it will begin sucking in enemies, spinning faster the more it devours.

While it’s doing so you’ll be off taking out enemies of your own but be vigilant and before the black hole starts spinning dangerously quickly, give it a couple of little blasts to calm it down again. If you don’t, things could go very bad for you very quickly.

While brutally difficult at times, Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved is also an extremely addictive and rewarding shooter experience and a great addition to NVIDIA SHIELD.
