Ex-Blizzard dev combines the App Store's most overused tropes in a single game, out this week

Zombie Match Defense will be out for iOS this Thursday, October 22nd. It'll be out for Android later this year too.

Now, we've said it before but it's worth saying again: Zombie Match Defense is perhaps the most generic name for a mobile game ever.

But that's entirely the point.

It's the work of ex-Blizzard guy Jake Sones. He made a bet over whether or not the most overused tropes on the App Store could be combined into a single game and still be fun.

Zombie Match Defense is his attempt at winning that bet. He's hoping it's going to prove to be a lot of fun for those who play it.

We played it at Pocket Gamer San Francisco earlier this year and it was so fun that it won the Very Big Indie Pitch. Looks like Sones is on to a winner.

The idea is to match coloured brains in lanes in order to hold back a zombie attack. It's a combination of match-3 puzzler and lane defense.
You can see our hands-on video with it here for a better idea.

You'll be able purchase Zombie Match Defense for £1.49 / $1.99 on the App Store in a couple of days. Oh, and despite being a game about tropes, there will be no IAPs.
