Super Sharp is a game about slicing blocks. In a way it's a bit like a simplified version of Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage. All stark colours and one-screen puzzles.

And it's pretty damn good. There's a level of challenge here that'll have you scratching your head, and the simple mechanics mean anyone can pick it up and have a go.

Dotted lines

Essentially you're just slicing through blocks so chunks of them fall in the correct direction to pick up little floating tokens.

The first few levels are reasonably sedate. You make a couple of slices and the blocks fall away. But the game adds interesting new ideas as you play.

There are blocks attached to strings, blocks that rise up instead of falling down, and tokens in un-cuttable boxes that you need to move in order to succeed.

You need to think in new ways, consider your slices, and use gravity to your advantage. There's a quick restart button, and so long as you finish a level it doesn't matter how many chunks you cut the blocks into.

Of course if you want to get the stars awarded for finishing in the fewest number of slices, you'll need to think carefully about where to position each cut.

The end result is a puzzler that doesn't rush you, that layers its structure around a solid core of simple touchscreen gaming.

Nicey slicey

The ideas here might not be the most original, but they're implemented in satisfying ways. And the chunky colours and simple art style make the game a pleasure to look at.

If you like cutting things up, physics puzzlers, and games that let you take things at your own pace without ever becoming too simple, then Super Sharp is definitely worth a bash.

Super Sharp - You know, it is pretty sharp

An interesting twist on some old ideas, Super Sharp is a puzzler that just about lives up to its name
