According to 9to5Mac, the next iteration of Apple's Apple TV is set to reposition itself as a gaming device. Because everyone loves games, and games are cool, and TVs are cool, so gaming on your TV might catch on.

This all comes from "sources with knowledge of the product" which sounds ominous to me.

You'll be able to download games directly from the TV's App Store, and play them using the device's remote.

This will have Wii-style wiggle compatibility, so you can use it to steer cars, slice swords, and all that stuff.

And apparently there'll be more traditional controller-style peripherals with pressure sensitive buttons for people who think playing games with a remote is dumb.

Wave it around

The Apple TV 4 will also feature Siri control, so you can shout at it to make it do things. But not the washing up.

The site reckons the new generation Apple TV will be announced at Apple's event next week, and that it'll retail for somewhere between $149 and $199.

We'll see how much these "sources" know come next week I guess.
