A real-time, turn-based tactics game called Nova-111 has just hit the PlayStation Store and Steam. Which, if you're paying attention, should leave you asking "what?" and "huh?"

Well, here's the idea: it's a traditional turn-based game where you shift between grid cells and bump into enemies to do damage. Like a roguelike, but without all the permadeath and procedural generation.

But, certain things happen outside of the rigid turn-based structure. Stalactites fall from the ceiling in real-time, some enemies can deal damage outside of the turn structure, and exploding enemies might blow up at any second.

Nova

This gives the game a sharp mix of head-scratching contemplation, and speedy real-time problem solving. Plus, you can use all this to your advantage. Like carefully luring a turn-based enemy underneath a falling real-time hazard.

It's interesting stuff. Though it should be, coming from ex Q-Games developers (PixelJunk) at Funktronic labs.

We'll have a full review next week. But if you can't wait until then, Nova-111 is out now on Vita and Steam for £9.60 / $11.99 - a 20 percent discount for the launch period.
