Each week, we ask members of our App Army for their feedback on the latest and greatest releases on mobile.
One top pick recently was Aquiris Game Studio's neo-retro racing classic, Horizon Chase: World Tour.
Let's see what our App Army had to say...
Wow, I love Horizon Chase's classic arcade racer style. This game is awesome!
Eight countries, 80 circuits, 18 cars... and that feeling of intense speed. This game is awesome.
That sweet, sweet speed.
Oh man, Horizon Chase is so much fun. I fell in love with it as soon as I played the first track. Finally I can apply my real life racing abilities to my iPad!
I wish the game would give you a rear view mirror so that I could see the competition vanish into the distance in their futile attempt to beat me.
It would also add a little more depth to the game, helping you block cars behind you and giving you the ability to choose different line strategies.
The game is still insanely fun even without out it though.
I haven't played many racing games like this before, but I knew I would like it once I caught a glimpse of it.
Horizon Chase is a marvel in motion, and even more fun to play. It really reminds me of Sega's Out Run, which is no bad thing. It's highly surpassed any expectations I had.
The only slight niggle to the game is having to earn in-game currency. I don't have a problem with having to earn each cup - in fact I think working for each region of circuits just makes it all the more worth it.
I'm just a bit irked by so much being needed. On the other hand, as I said before, it makes it worth the grind.
Man, this game is beautiful in so many ways. The art is brilliant - eye candy everywhere!
From the cars and roads, to the sun and moon setting, Horizon Chase has got it going on. Each race track has a unique environment., and the sound effects are spot-on.
I'm not sure which is more fun... oversteering during a turn, or enabling a shot of your nitrous. The music gets you hyped, immersing you into the race so that you strive to go faster.
Absolutely loving this.
I just received my R8 lookalike. I feel as if I'm 13 all over again, sitting in the arcade playing Out Run for the first time!
Simply amazing. I'm thoroughly enjoying this one. I agree that it could use a rearview mirror option, but it's no biggie. Still stunning, engaging, and incredibly fun.
This game really got me hyped up. Very few games invoke that old childhood excitement. Made me want to dust off my Scalextric to pay tribute.
I remember getting a slot car racing track for Christmas when I was about 10 years old. One of my most cherished childhood memories.
Horizon Chase does gives me the same nostalgic sensation whenever I play it. I keep telling my nieces and nephews that toys nowadays stink compared to the awesome toys I grew up with.
Stop, you're making me tear up GGod Hand!
This is a true arcade racer. A game that not only delivers the sensation of speed in short but intense races, but also an injection of adrenaline.
Each race is more pleasurable than the last, and there's tons of content to unlock and keep you going. Pure pleasure in gaming form.
I really like Horizon Chase's retro style, and how it somehow feels both fresh and new. It feels just like playing an old Sega racer for the first time.
It runs as smooth as butter, and everything you can see is astonishingly vibrant. Although the game has obvious in-app purchase elements, it's still a great retro-style racer.
The only thing I wish this game had is the option to use tilt controls. I'm fine with touch controls, but much rather prefer to tilt myself.
I enjoy how the game keeps you striving to get the recommended position to pass the level, adding a whole new element of challenge.
Horizon Chase is beautiful. The low poly environments lend the game a unique, retro art style much like arcade games from my favourite pizza joints when I was growing up.
Drifting here is a simple mechanic, stretched out into a full game. Somehow this doesn't get old due to the differences to each of the surfaces you drive on.
Hats off to the devs for delivering on their promises. I haven't been this excited about a racing since my dad got me a Scalextric as a kid!
What's not to love? The environments are absolutely gorgeous without being ultra realistic, the weather changes, and you actually have a sunrise and sunset.
As you race, the tracks provide just the right amount of a challenge to keep you coming back for more. There are plenty of unlockable cars, each with different strengths and weaknesses. It soon becomes a matter of choosing the right car for each track.
I can't give Horizon Chase enough praise. Aquiris has given us a premium title, full of all the things we all loved about the old retro games.
I'm glad they didn't get obsessed with making the game look and feel so real that they neglected the actual fun factor of the game.
I have never been a fan of mobile racing games, but this is a real treasure that should not be missed. If you remember the joy games like Out Run and Cruis'n USA brought you then you're in for a treat.
