Why can't I hold all these games? Oh... they're digital

Incoming! The most exciting Vita games for August 2015
|

Blimey. We may be receiving little in the way of first party support here in Vitaville, but fans of all genres will be able to find something to suit their tastes this month.

The big titles in August are undoubtedly Resi Revelations 2 and Mike Bithell's Volume. Both are real lookers too. Shame the original Resi Revelations hasn't made it across to Vita too.

We also have the usual smattering of indie treats and Japanese oddities for your perusal, as well as a particularly dodgy import for you to be bemused by.

Sound Shapes, CastleStorm, and Stealth Inc. 2 are your "free" PlayStation Plus games for August, and pretty decent they are too, earning Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards respectively.

Actual Sunlight
Will O'Neill - 11th (North America)

Perhaps more of an interactive story than a game, Actual Sunlight has you taking protagonist Evan Winter through various points in his life. The Steam version has received many a rave review, so keep an eye out.

Squares
LEAP Game Studios - 11th (Europe)

This ran away with second prize in our #PGCSanFran Big Indie Pitch back in March, with our Mark saying it "might not be as sophisticated as Metrico or electric as Lumines, but it's still one for Vita puzzle fans to watch out for."

XBlaze Lost: Memories
Arc System Works / Aksys Games - 11th (North America)

Sequel to last year's XBlaze Code: Embryo, this is a visual novel spinoff of popular 2D fighting series BlazBlue. Hop around 16-bit floors collecting memory fragments while avoiding monsters and traps, just like you do in BlazBlue. Or not.

DiscStorm
XMPT Games - 14th (Europe, North America)

A frantic, arena-based, retro-styled frisbee deathmatch game? Count me in. Aside from all the multiplayer options you'd expect, DiscStorm also features a fully-fledged single player campaign.

Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library & the Monster Seal
Aqua Plus / Atlus - 18th (North America)

Like dungeon crawlers and fan service? You're in good hands. This is a Vita upgrade of the Japanese PSP original, which also happens to be a spin-off of the To Heart 2 visual novel series.

Resident Evil Revelations 2
Frima Studio / Capcom - 18th (Europe, North America)

Itchy. Tasty. Featuring all four episodes of the game alongside the bonus episodes and Raid Mode co-op.

Yes, I'm afraid there'll be no physical release, but this is still a mighty solid Resi survival horror adventure that fans of the series shouldn't miss out on.

Volume
Mike Bithell - 18th (Europe, North America)

Mike Bithell of Thomas Was Alone fame brings his Metal Gear Solid VR Mission homage over to Vita just like he promised. Should be splendid. Cross-buy with the PlayStation 4 version.

Amnesia: Memories
Idea Factory - 25th (North America), 26th (Europe)

No, not that Amnesia. Not by a longshot. This here's an otome visual novel, so get ready to friendzone a bunch of effeminate male suitors, each of whom are named after card suits.

Back to Bed
Bedtime Digital Games / LOOT Entertainment - 25th (North America)

Here's a port of the surrealist inspired mobile puzzler from last year.

Our Harry mainly had problems with its control scheme, so we can only assume that'll be remedied thanks to the Vita's lovely sticks. Cross-buy with the PlayStation 3 and 4 versions.

Nova-111
Funktronic Labs / Curve Studios - 25th (Europe, North America)

This cartoonish turn-based adventure looks to be an intriguing sci-fi romp with an absolutely corking soundtrack from what I've heard so far. Cross-buy with the PlayStation 3 and 4 versions.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3
Omega Force / Bandai Namco - 25th (North America), 28th (Europe)

One Piece Dynasty Warriors 3. You know the score by now.

Steins;Gate
5pb / PQube - 25th (North America)

I gave Steins;Gate a 6/10 when it launched in Europe, which is still above average on our review scale, but a fair few readers were upset by this score. I ain't sorry though!

I found the character I was playing as distasteful to say the least, but if you're into your weeaboo trappings, by all means have at it.

Lost Dimension
FuRyu / NIS America - 28th (Europe)

A... tactical RPG? Not a visual novel or animu girl gawk 'em up? Ooh.

It's the end of world, and you need to investigate a mysterious tower while making members of the S.E.A.L.E.D. team all pally with each other.

Japanese highlight:

Gal*Gun: Double Peace
Alchemist / Experience Inc. - 6th (Japan)

I remember playing the Gal*Gun on Xbox 360 in front of a roomful of friends. It was an odd experience, as the game is a first-person Japanese anime schoolgirl touch 'em up.

This sequel is just as troubling, only now it has touch controls.

Chance for localisation: 0.3%. Yeah... not gonna happen.
