Cardboard cutout dungeon crawler Loot & Legends is the best iOS game this week

The best place to play Loot & Legends is probably a carpet. Set your iPad down, lie on your belly, and pretend you're playing a boardgame.

It's not exactly a stretch of the imagination to do this, either, as there's a dude in the game that you're playing against. He occasionally gets interrupted by pizza being delivered or his older brother getting angry with him for whatever reason.

Yes, Loot & Legends wants you to relish in the experience of playing a physical boardgame. Except, of course, you're not. But it does a good job of sustaining this fiction.

Helping along, all the characters in your party look like cardboard cutouts, and you select cards from a deck to instruct their actions.

As you fight your way through dungeons, slaying beasts and saving villagers, it's easy to get caught in the current of progress.

Your characters level up, you swap out their equipment with the better loot you earned, and you learn to use the grid-based environment to your advantage.

If you're not careful you'll probably be caught in mid-banter with the dude on the other end of screen. Just, er, tell whoever walks in on you that it's an online game and you're discussing tactics with a mate. Yeah, that'll do it...
