Square Enix is making a match-3 football RPG for iOS, apparently
Oh, okay then
These are words that I never thought I'd see together: "match-3", "football RPG", and "Square Enix."
Yep, that's right, Square Enix has surprised us all here at Pocket Gamer by soft-launching Puzzle Soccer on the Australian App Store.
It's surprising only because Square Enix is a company we associate RPGs that strictly involve fantasy or sci-fi. Not football. But hey, here we are, I guess.
Puzzle Soccer has you playing football matches by matching icons on a grid. They correspond to defending, dribbling, and shooting the ball.
As you make your way across its 80-odd levels, you are able to recruit new team members to improve your squad and your chances of victory.
It's a free to play game so, of course, there's an energy system and boosters. There are also tournaments to compete in as well as global leaderboards.
Fancy giving it a go? You can grab Puzzle Soccer on the Australian App Store right now. Otherwise, you can wait until its global launch.
