It might have missed its own birthday by three years, but the 20th anniversary remake of Gabriel Knight: Sins of our Fathers is finally out on iPad.

This point and click adventure follows struggling author Gabriel Knight, who falls into a tangled web of cults and conspiracies while researching voodoo-themed murders for his new book.

The remake replaces the pixel art with 3D characters and hand drawn art, adds fresh music and voice acting, introduces some new scenes and puzzles, throws in some handy hints, and comes packed with behind-the-scenes stuff.

It's ambitious, but hard to fully recommend. In our upcoming review we'll say "this remake will struggle to appeal to new players or nostalgics with its obtuse puzzles and budget presentation". Which is a shame.

But hey, you don't have to take our word for it. The game is free to download and try - if you like it, there are £2.29 / $2.99 and £2.99 / $3.99 in-app purchases to unlock the rest of the game.

You can get it now on the App Store. An Android version should arrive on Google Play sometime today.
