Shibuya Grandmaster is a fast-paced test of skill that's been five years in the making, out next week

Nevercenter will be bringing out its sequel to the Silver Award-winning Shibuya (from way back in 2010) on July 30th.

As with the original game, it's a fast-paced block-matching puzzler that will probably tie your brain and fingers into knots.

The idea is to assign a colour to transparent blocks as they descend so that two or more of the same color lie adjacent in the pile. When this is done they pop, disappear, and add to your score.

It's a lot like Tetris except it shaves the task down to an even more simple action in order to allow for faster play. It's all about reaching a zen state in order to get the biggest, quickest combos and avoid letting the screen overflow.

Nevercenter has been refining Shibuya Grandmaster for the past five years and has also put a lot of through into its monetization.

"We're trying something different," the studio told us regarding the game's business model today.

It'll be free to download with "no ads, no virtual currency, no paywalls, no waiting periods."

Instead, there will be entirely optional animated backgrounds and colour schemes being sold for 79p / 99c via in-app purchases.

On offer will also be a one-time "Everything Forever" purchase at £3.99 / $4.99 that will net you everything the game has to offer, even into the future.

Shibuya Grandmaster reportedly runs at 60 frames per second, offers seven levels of difficulty (the hardest being "Gentle Rain") and has a colour blind friendly mode.
