The official Star Wars companion app lets you take selfies inside the films, out now

Disney has launched an official Star Wars companion app on iOS.

Primarily, it gives you a way to be among the first to know about any breaking news or events related to the franchise through notifications.

But it does a lot more than that, allowing you to really get yourself involved with the sci-fi universe. For, starters you can choose a Dark Side, Light Side, or Droid theme to thumb around inside.

But there's also a way to use your phone as a pretend lightsaber against a training drone like Luke Skywalker does in Episode IV: A New Hope.

You can take selfies as iconic characters like Princess Leia or carbon frozen Han Solo. Plus, you can use stills from the movies as backgrounds for your selfies.

There's also a way to unlock 3D characters from Star Wars: The Force Awakens using a special Augmented Reality camera feature.

Star Wars app

Speaking of The Force Awakens, there's a countdown clock inside the app that'll tell you how long you have to wait until you can watch it.

There's loads more too including behind-the-scenes facts from Star Wars history, sound clips and gifs, and a way to watch trailers as well as get your very own Star Wars ID in the community.

You can download the Star Wars companion app for free on the App Store right now.
