A rule that's designed to keep clones off the App Store seems to have hit a snag, as developer James Gamble has seen SpikeDislike3 rejected by Apple because it made reference to the previous games in his series.

The threequel was banned from sale, with Apple's rejection notice saying that SpikeDislike3 contained "false, fraudulent, or misleading representations", and used "names or icons similar to other apps".

Apparently, it would be "appropriate to disassociate the app from SpikeDislike and SpikeDislike2".

"God forbid I try to make a sequel to my own damn game!," said Gamble, on his blog. "I could understand if I’d uploaded a puzzle game, and stuck the word Tetris in there. But… SpikeDislike and SpikeDislike2!? I’m referencing MY OWN games".

The developer told Pocket Gamer that he has removed the offending search keywords from the game and resubmitted it to Apple. "It's stupid, but I'd rather just get the game out there than argue my case".

He warns that it could be another ten days before the second submission goes through and SpikeDislike3 is allowed on the App Store.
