New Monster Hunter, Chibi-Robo, and more revealed in Japanese Nintendo Direct
Amiib-oh-no
Nintendo held one of its news-filled Direct broadcasts over the weekend, but exclusively in Japan. We got a sneak peek at a bunch of new 3DS games, but we'll have to wait for E3 to see how many of the games are coming to the west.
Monster Hunter XWe're still playing Monster Hunter 4 over on Twitch, but Capcom has already announced a follow-up. Monster Hunter X expands on the formula with new moves and monsters, and is out in Japan this winter.
Fire Emblem IfBifurcated strategy game Fire Emblem If will add a city-building element where you can design your town layout, and defend your kingdom from invaders. Nintendo also confirms that the Marth, Ike, Robin, and Lucina Amiibo will work in the game.
Animal Crossing: Happy Home DesignerHappy Home Designer, the interior design puzzle game, is out on July 30th in Japan. You'll also be able to buy Amiibo cards, the Amiibo reader (for older 3DS units), a dolled up New 3DS XL, and a dashing cover plate for New 3DS.
Chibi-RoboVery few people played Chibi-Robo, and that's a damn shame. Let's hope more people discover this lovely, loopy series when a side-scrolling platformer featuring the pint-size bot is released. Better yet, the game has an Amiibo that gives Chibi special powers when scanned. Game and figure are out in Japan this autumn.
Pokémon Super Mystery DungeonThis Nintendo Direct offered us the first footage for this critter-filled roguelike. The game will have 720 different Pokemon which is, by our counts, a lot. The game's out in Japan this September.
Dr. MarioDo not let Mario touch your genitals. He is not a real doctor. But he does make a good falling block puzzler. This eShop download will have classic Dr. Mario gameplay, a Dr. Luigi mode, and many more game types.
Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Palico Village DXThis game got a small cameo during the Direct. It's kind of like Monster Hunter meets Animal Crossing, where you manage a village filled with those fluffy feline Palico characters from MonHun proper. It's out in Japan this September.
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic GamesAnd finally, in "it was bound to happen" news, the 1990s' most bitter rivals, Mario and Sonic, will once again meet up to run, swim, and ride bikes. New for Rio is golf and rugby. Finally, a sport that Donkey Kong can excel at.
