Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer announced at Nintendo Direct, uses card-based amiibos
3DS getting external amiibo reader this year
Nintendo announced a new spin-off game in the Animal Crossing series at Nintendo Direct today called Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer.
Headed to the Nintendo 3DS later this year, Happy Home Designer (as its name suggests) revolves heavily around the interior decorating aspects of the Animal Crossing games.
You’ll be tasked with making design decisions for your town’s needy residents, customizing their homes with furniture, decorations, and more.
What stands out about Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer is its use of card-based amiibos, a more portable option than the amiibo figures.
These cards will feature characters from Animal Crossing whose home you can choose to design.
Not only are the cards more portable for the needs of on-the-go players, but they’ll be more affordable than the figurines as well.
As you might already know, the New Nintendo 3DS comes with amiibo-scanning capabilities built in to its NFC reader.
To make these Animal Crossing amiibo cards compatible with older Nintendo 3DS models, Nintendo will release an external amiibo reader the day Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer launches.
The game itself and its amiibo cards will be sold separately.
