Local multiplayer is a rare thing for mobile games, but even more rare are ones that manage to innovate within that already small space.

DUAL is one of those games. It’s a top-down, competitive shooter played locally on two devices.

Players stand face to face with their phones in hand and together, both screens make up the playing field.

The mobile devices don’t need to be put down on a table or somehow kept straight to work.

As you can see in the trailer below, players are free to swerve and tilt their phones, shooting and dodging bullets that travel from one screen to the next.

You can even play DUAL cross-platform on iOS and Android, on both phones and tablets. The game's screen will adjust to the size of the smallest device in play.

DUAL is coming to the App Store and Google Play on April 2nd for free, or £1.49 / $1.99 to unlock.

The free version of DUAL grants you access to one of the game's three ships and the competitive Duel mode.

Buying the game unlocks the co-op Defend mode and the other two ships. Only one player needs to have the paid version of the game to play the co-op mode with another player.

Whether you play the free version of the paid version, DUAL contains no ads.
