Funky Kong to Yarn Yoshi - the 16 best custom amiibo figures

Here's one I made earlier...

Funky Kong to Yarn Yoshi - the 16 best custom amiibo figures

Some people are just so impatient. While Nintendo is hard at work, making amiibo figurines of every fighter in Smash Bros and various characters from the Mario universe, they just want more and more.

So they've got out their paint pots and their modelling clay and started customising existing amiibos to make figures of even more characters.

Still, you have to admire their creativity and craftsmanship. These arty people from Reddit's amiibo subreddit have managed to make everyone from Funky Kong to Mr. Game and Watch. Our favourites can be found below.

Female villager Female villager

Play as the villager in Super Smash Bros and you can swap between a boy and girl with a touch of a button. But if you want to get a female villager amiibo, you're gonna need to get your paints and clay out. This customer even comes in a fancy box.

donizetty Link to the Past Link to the Past

Toon Link is a popular amiibo to paint. For this cute custom, Tomcat1994 remembers back to when Link sported a rad pink hairdo during Link to the Past. His punky, experimental days will be forever remembered thanks to pink paint.

Tomcat1994 Mewtwo Mewtwo

Okay, this one is a tad ridiculous. It's actually a combination of three figures: the base from a Peach amiibo; the NFC chip from a Mewtwo figure for Pokemon Rumble, and a Mewtwo figure from Japan. Slam them altogether and you've got a rad amiibo that works in Pokemon Rumble on Wii U.

Tomcat1994 Pink Falcon Pink Falcon

You're not a true Captain Falcon fan if you don't dress the F-Zero pilot up in his pink and white garb. This repainted amiibo (a ballsy move, considering that Falcon is one of the rarer figures) puts the captain in his true outfit.

ThisIsAntwon Ganondorf Kirby Ganondorf Kirby

Kirby's special ability in Smash is to suck in other fighters and then mimic their powers - complete with a costume change to show who the pink blob is emulating. That means there are roughly 50 custom Kirbys you could make, but this awesome Ganondorf creation is a good start.

rollerGhoster Outset Island Link Outset Island

The Toon Link amiibo is based on The Wind Waker - but that's not the only outfit Link wears in the game. Before he dons his green hat and tunic, he wears a dashing blue shirt and messy blond hair. This fab custom amiibo captures that look - complete with a piggy under the arm.

Katesensei Wolf Wolf

Wolf got booted from the Smash Bros roster after Brawl, and some players aren't ready to let go just yet. Which is why we've got this Fox paint job, which turns the hero of Star Fox into the ruthless mercenary leader of Star Wolf.

CheckeredTail Golden Mario Golden Mario

New Super Mario Bros 2 on 3DS introduced us to a solid gold Mario that can turn any block or enemy into coins. That greedy money-hungry plumber now has his own amiibo. Careful work went into making sure the gold paint didn't get on Mario's fireball.

Jaimonster Funky Kong Funky Kong

Funky Kong is basically "The 90s: The Video Game Character". He has a doorag, big shades, and a surfboard. He's totally tubular, man. And now he's got his very own amiibo in this repainted Donkey Kong figure.

CheckeredTail Mr Game and Watch Game Watch

Mr Game and Watch is one of the last Smash Bros fighters to not have its own amiibo (yet). And we're very curious to see how Nintendo turns a paper-thin black blob into a full figure. Maybe this chunky custom will give Nintendo some inspiration…

tacomcMUFFin Wireframe Little Mac Little Mac

I can't quite get my head around how this one was achieved, but it seems like the creator used a Little Mac amiibo to create a mould, and constructed a new transparent figure with resin. Possibly the most inventive one of the lot.

_peble Four Swords Link Four Swords Link

Okay, after the last amiibo these quick paint jobs might seem a little simple. One hasn't even been customised! But still, points for a good idea in turning four Toon Link amiibos into the cooperative Links in Four Swords Adventure.

VegastarLH Mewtwo Kirby Mewtwo Kirby

We'll have to wait another month to see what Kirby's Mewtwo mimicry looks like in Smash Bros - the cloned Pokemon won't be available in the game until March. But it probably looks like this impressive Kirby custom.

Mr_JGrave Yarn Yoshi Yarn Yoshi

Nintendo may release some amiibo for its upcoming Yarn Yoshi game on Wii U, but I doubt they'll look as wooly and wonderful as this custom figure. It's basically a wooly jumper for the original Yoshi amiibo, and it looks great.

NLighteNd1 Paper Mario and Paper Luigi Paper Mario

Bonus points for making custom boxes for these paper-thin figures. Like the Mr Game and Watch above, these RPG heroes have been given a little depth so they don't blow over under the force of a light wind.

NBros Chunky Kong Chunky

This powerful ape - first properly introduced in Donkey Kong 64 - gets his own custom amiibo, thanks to a little creative painting and modelling of the Donkey Kong figure. Just don't stare directly into its eyes.
