The only similarity between both games is that they each take cues from the impossibly geometry of M. C. Escher. That, and they're both rather pretty to look at.
Skyward isn't a puzzle game like Monument Valley. It's actually an endless climbing or walking game.
It gives you two circles to control that each represent a foot. When one circle is on the ground the other circles around it.
You have to tap to place the other foot on the ground. If you miss the ground then you fail and have to start again. So it's a game about timing and perception.
It can get pretty tense if you try to get into a rhythm as it's easy to mess up as the angles of ground constantly change.
The higher you go the more patterns you unlock to climb up, too. Many of these have moving platforms, making your task even harder.Skyward has challenge, looks, and a progressive reward system. If that appeals to you then you can download it for free on the UK and US App Stores at midnight.
