Reckless Racing developer Pixelbite has released the first chapter of its tactical top-down shooter Space Marshals on iOS today.

It carries a sci-fi western theme, turning you into specialist Burton as he hunts down fugitives across planets and outer space following a prison break.

How you deal with these dangerous, escaped criminals is up to you. Well, so long as it involves either shooting or explosions - you can't go on a date with any of them.

To make this decision, first you must choose a loadout from those on offer. The roster includes shotguns, armour, grenades, sniper rifles, crossbows, energy weapons, throwing axes, and more.

Once you're among the fugitives, you can then decide to go in guns blazing, or try a more subtle approach. This may involve the use flashbangs and silencers, or maybe disguises and sneaking - it's up to you.

You can also pitch factions against each other. That is, if you don't fancy dedicating your services to work with just one of them.

Space Marshals is played with a virtual dual-stick set-up, has Game Center achievements, and rewards you based on your performance.

You can purchase it for £2.99 / $4.99 on the App Store right now.

Do bear in mind that, currently, only the first chapter of three is available. You shouldn't have to pay anything more for the other two chapters.

Also worth noting is that the game isn't compatible with iPhone 4. And full retina HD isn't supported on iPad 3.
