Rhythm action iPad game Psynchrony has the best teeth brushing in games

Would you look at that gif up there. Is that not the best teeth brushing you've ever seen in a game? I reckon so.

It's from Julian Kantor's rhythm-action game Psynchrony, which he quietly announced for iPad while 2014 was being laid to rest.

In it, you play as the young woman you can see above. Her name is Kay, and she's a writer, but her life has arrived at a difficult crossroads.

"In order to break free from the rigid rhythms of her daily routine, Kay must reach the center of her inner dream world and confront the shadowy figure who has haunted her since childhood," explains Kantor.

It seems that escaping these "rigid rhythms" is both metaphorical as well as a physical action that you'll have to perform inside the game.

When taking on a task, you're required to tap on the screen when thought bubbles reach Kay as they move inwardly at her.

Tap at the right time, matching the rhythm, and Kay will speed up, becoming more confident in the action. But if you miss she'll slow down and maybe stop if you're that bad.

The example that Kantor gives is brushing Kay's teeth, hence the gif above. What you can't experience yet is the music that accompanies the teeth brushing.

"Every time Kay takes an action, or gains momentum, the music will build in intensity," Kantor says. "And with every layer of music you discover, you will also discover a new layer of the story, along with new gameplay sequences."

In the future, Kantor says that he'll explain how free action and rhythm choice also affects the music and story.
