Lucky Frame, creator of Bad Hotel and The Nightmare Cooperative, isn't making any more games

Over the past few years, Lucky Frame has proven to be one of our favourite studios making games for iOS.

Those include Bad Hotel, Wave Trip, Gentlemen!, and The Nightmare Cooperative, which is currently free for our Advent Calendar (go get it!).

Now, unfortunately, the Edinburgh-based studio has disbanded and will be making no more games in the foreseeable future.

This is due to a number of reasons that Lucky Frame founder Yann Seznec outlined in a blog post.

Bad Hotel

Among these is the fact that the studio's latest Gold Award-winning game, The Nightmare Cooperative, which only sold 7,000 copies across all platforms.

Compare this to the 100,000 selling, Silver Award-winning Bad Hotel, and it seems clear that the studio's finances would have been stretched if it had carried on.

"We could probably have scraped by and figured out a way to make another game, but the time was right to move on," wrote Seznec.

"It had become increasingly clear to me personally that I did not have the burning desire to sell games. My primary concern has always been to make creatively interesting work," he continued.

So closing up shop, at least for now, is not all due to financial woes. The team are wanting to work on other creative projects and are finding alternative ways to do that.

The money situation merely acted as a catalyst, encouraging them to put the studio to sleep.

It's a shame, but the studio has brought us a number of creative and compelling games in the short time it was active.
