Every now and then, we like to look off the sides of the Pocket Gamer mothership to see if anyone else appreciates mobile games as much as we do.

Usually, there isn't that much love for our pocket-sized play things to shout or cheer about. Apparently, a lot of people look down on mobile games.

But, as these games get better with every passing year, more people and publications are sharing in our love for them.

This is why we'd like to take a moment to celebrate the fact that both TIME magazine and Metal Gear Solid director Hideo Kojima picked a mobile game as their game of the year.

80 Days

For TIME, the number one spot in its "Top 10 Video Games of 2014" belonged to the Gold Award-winning 80 Days. Much deserved, as we called it a " sharp, wonderfully written adventure" in our review.

Also representing mobile and handheld gaming in TIME's list are Velocity 2X, Shovel Knight, Monument Valley, and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft.

"Without any doubt"

As for Kojima, he revealed his game of the year via Twitter - how modern of him.

"Played "FRAMED" by L[o]veshack. High sense of gameplay, graphic, & sound. My best game in this year without any doubt," reads Kojima's tweet.

Framed

So yes, Loveshack's Gold Award-winning Framed is Kojima's game of 2014. Pretty impressive, don't you think?

Now, obviously, all of Pocket Gamer's top picks of the year are going to be handheld and mobile games, as that's what we deal in.

The question is whether, out of all the games released this year, you'll pick any mobile games as your favourites. Well?
