The bargain bin platformer Cubic Ninja used to cost £3 on CEX, but now it's being sold for £60. Why? It's the key to unlocking the 3DS.

Jordan "smealum" Rabet, a hacker, is the cause for this rise in the game's price. After months of work, he managed to find an exploit that allows homebrew games to run on the 3DS.

As with the Wii's "Twilight Hack," this 3DS crack requires a game to work. You also need an internet connection, an SD card, and obviously a 3DS.

Initially, users in the GBATemp forums - where Rabet made his announcement - were keeping what game was needed for the crack to work a secret.

But this soon changed, and Rabet tweeted a Vine that revealed that the game needed was Cubic Ninja (more specifically, a Japanese version of the game).

With this reveal, loads of people rushed to buy a copy of Cubic Ninja so that they could use Rabet's hack once it is released on November 22nd.

This new demand for the game is why the price of it has soared so suddenly. It's also why Nintendo has removed Cubic Ninja from the Japanese eShop.

So, now you know why a mediocre platformer from 2011 is selling for upwards of £60.

Not that we're encouraging you to buy it and crack your 3DS. No, that's naughty and you shouldn't do it.
