F2P iOS version of Tales of Phantasia is being pulled just 6 months after its release

It's come to light that Bandai Namco will be pulling the iOS version of Tales of Phantasia from the App Store just six months after it came out.

A user in the Touch Arcade forums noticed that a Notice of Termination of Distribution had been added to the top of the game's App Store page.

It says that Tales of Phantasia will cease to be distributed on August 28th 2014.

It also notes that "the app and all associated services will become unusable" on the same date. That includes IAPs you've already bought and save data.

Lastly, IAPs will no longer be sold after July 29th 2014.

Bandai Namco has not given a reason as to why it's pulling Tales of Phantasia (which is only available in the US anyway) from the App Store.

Tales of Phantasia

At review, we said that Tales of Phantasia is a "port with potential ruined by obtrusively implemented IAPs".

The same could be said about EA's recent mobile version of Dungeon Keeper. It was criticised for its customer review nagging and wait-timers. EA's CEO, Andrew Wilson, called it "a shame" when looking back at it in recent weeks.

Perhaps Bandai Namco are of the same opinion regarding Tales of Phantasia as Wilson is of Dungeon Keeper.

Could it have made the decision to pull it for that reason? We have no idea.

In truth, it could be any number of things that have caused Bandai Namco to make this decision. Hopefully we'll hear an explanation at some point.

What's certain is that anyone who has invested money into the game will see it go to waste come August.
