Developer of Shadowrun Online and Jagged Alliance Online, Cliffhanger Productions has launched AERENA: Clash of Champions on iOS.

The Android available since May 14th has also been updated.

AERENA is a free-to-play turn-based strategy game set in an aetherpunk world of mad science and militaristic marvels.

You form a team of champions with unique abilities and some odd looks among the 50 available. Play involves escorting them on a small airship to park up next an opponent and fight them on grid-based sky arenas.

AERENA does have a solo mode for when you need to test out your team. However, it's designed primarily to be an online multiplayer experience.

Future updates to the game will allow for cross-platform matches, as well as the ability to battle friends.

Earn your victory

Recently, we found out that Cliffhanger had struggled to find a publisher for AERENA.

This was due to it being against the pay-to-win model, preferring to make a fair game that can be played free forever.

This is why Cliffhanger insists that "victory is earned through talent and tactics, not bought with IAPs". We can't argue with that.

You can download AERENA: Clash of Champions on Google Play [download] and the App Store [download] right now.
