Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake is a brilliant Zelda-inspired puzzler that's hitting iPad and iPhone on June 26th

Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake is a brilliant, Zelda-inspired top-down adventure puzzler about a young boy out to get his birthday cake breakfast back.

It looks gorgeous. All muted colours and brilliantly designed characters. And the core gameplay is just as smart.

You need to make your way through mazes, avoiding beasts, spikes, and all manner of other traps and tribulations.

There are lumps of cake to snaffle, secrets to uncover, and chests to unlock. You'll also befriend some good monsters along the way, and you'll need to use their powers to aid you in your quest.

One of them ploughs through obstacles with a super-fast bashing charge. Others have their own unique skills that let you progress.

The writing in particular is brilliant. It's warm, funny, and conveys everything it needs to in a few sentences.

Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake is set to hit the App Store this Thursday, June 26th, so you don't have long to wait to get your hands on it.

We're not sure how much it'll cost, but we'll be sure to let you know as soon as we find out. It's definitely one that's worth keeping an eye on though.
