OrangePixel wasn't being shy about its retro game influences with the Silver Award-winning Gunslugs.

It's classic run-and-gun gameplay was derived from the likes of Metal Slug and Contra. Don't expect anything different in the upcoming sequel, either.

Gunslugs 2 is set to start off right where Gunslugs ended: in Hell. OrangePixel sums up the plot of this sequel thus:

"The Black Duck Army teamed up with Aliens and is vaporizing souls all over the planet... obviously the powers of Hell are not amused and let the Gunslugs go to fight for survival of the planet!"

Yep, it's still as barmy as we remember it, then. Just to prove it, here's an in-development video of Gunslugs 2's "train sequence".

This is the type of action-packed sequences of which we'll see much more in Gunslugs 2.

"With the original Gunslugs, I tried adding these big AAA-game style events and set pieces to the game, but it really ended up with only the slow-motions, the big explosions, and the take-downs," OrangePixel's Pascal Bestebroer said.

"With Gunslugs 2 I'm pushing to really put in those same type of moments that I enjoy in AAA-games, but with a retro touch to them."

So, you can expect to see bigger explosions and even more ridiculous scenes in Gunslugs 2. Excellent.

There's no sign of a release date for Gunslugs 2 yet. As soon as we hear of one, though, we'll let you know. Oh, and it will be heading to iOS and Android once again.
