All that and third-party keyboard support, too.

We recognize that not everyone has the patience or dedication to Apple to sit through the entire 120 minutes of the WWDC Keynote presentation.

Thankfully, we do - it's sort of our job, y'know - and after enduring an hour-and-a-half of why OS X Yosemite will be awesome, we finally got tossed a few bones about iOS 8.

And oh, what beautiful bones they are.

Bundles of joy

Depending on how you look at it, the biggest news for both developers and dedicated Pocket Gamers is the announcement of App Bundles.

Similar to the Humble Bundles which've done the business on Android over the past few years, these new iOS bundles allow developers to place multiple games on sale for a single-purchase, discounted price.

So, when games like Infinity Blade II and Infinity Blade go on sale around the same time you could - possibly - buy them both in the same bundle, here assuming Chair puts one together.

Nifty, right?

Search me

That's just scratching the surface of the nifty.

iOS 8 will also bring a whole slew of changes to how we search for games and apps when it launches.

The traditional search will now be a longer, smooth-scrolling window and users will have the ability to dig deeper into 'Explore' searches which allow them to look for things like related apps.

If you're interested in chasing the new, new thing, you can also browse through 'Trending Searches' to see what's currently popular on the App Store.

Those who enjoy moving pictures over bland text will be happy to read that iOS 8 will also allow developers and publishers to embed Previews into a game's description.

While not an interactive demo, these previews are short, video clips that allow you to see a game in action before you buy it.

Y'know, kinda like those YouTube videos currently in place on Google Play.

That's all well and good to the casual iOS user, but what will iOS 8 offer you - the more focused, core, and dedicated pocket gaming enthusiast?

How about integrated access to TestFlight, which will allow developers to invite you to try a beta build of a game for free, right through the App Store.

That's certainly a nice touch.

Keyboards, release dates, and supported devices

Finally, those who've missed third-party keyboards like Swype from their Android days will be happy to read that iOS 8 will (finally) introduce support for third-party keyboards.

The good news about all these features is that they're on-track for an autumn release.

Tim Cook didn't say when in the fall these would come, but safe money's on iOS 8 rolling out alongside the iPhone 6.

Also, this might be a good time to upgrade your phone if you're a fan of older devices. The oldest supported devices for iOS 8 will be the iPhone 4S, the fifth-generation iPod touch, and the iPad 2.
