Muteki's retro RPG Dragon Fantasy Book I coming to Europe on June 18

Vita-owning fans of retro-inspired RPGs are in for a great summer, as The Muteki Corp has announced Dragon Fantasy Book I will makes its way to Europe on June 18.

Launching for the PS Vita and PS3, Dragon Fantasy Book I is a cross-buy title that also supports Cross-Save functionality. So your £5.99 / 6,99€ gets you a game you download on your Vita and PS3 and play across both.

Muteki's original plan was to launch Dragon Fantasy Book I and its Silver Award-winning sequel Dragon Fantasy Book II together, but SCEE approved Book I first.

Muteki didn't provide a timetable for Book II's release, but stated on its Facebook page that it didn't want to hold up the release of one game for the sake of the other.

Where are my dragons?

Dragon Fantasy Book I is a quirky, 8-bit RPG that delivers a firm nod and smile to the days of classic JRPGs like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.

While its gameplay and heritage are inarguably rooted in the oldest of old schools, there's plenty of modern humour in Book I with potshots taken at the likes of Reddit and Minecraft.

In our review of Dragon Fantasy Book I, we called it a game for Dragon Quest fans - stating that it's "a sterling recreation of what made those games great".

We also noted that it adheres a little too closely to the 8-bit RPG formula, which ultimately held it back from earning a higher score.
