Watch_Dogs Companion: ctOS Mobile is the appallingly long winded companion app for the recently released sneaky hacky open world console game.

Unlike your usual companion app, this one looks to be more than just a selection of maps, gewgaws, and brand interfacing.

You play as a member of the Chicago police department who's trying to stop naughty hacktivists from doing naughty things like, oh I don't know, making all the digital money explode or something.

It's all maps, taps, and setting traps. You'll need an internet connection to play the game, but there's no single player campaign so that's not really a surprise.

The impressive thing is you're actually trying to take down real-life console and PC gamers who are running around in the real console and PC game.

They speed around the multiplayer in their hacking cars and you need to try to stop them from reaching their goal by hacking them right back. Or shooting them with a sniper.

Could this all be a metaphor for mobile gaming destroying the console market? Probably not, but the game doesn't cost anything to download, so it's probably worth a punt.

You can grab it right now for nowt from the App Store [download] and the Google Play Store [download].
