Yak Dash (Horns of Glory) is a gorgeous upcoming racer inspired by traditional Tibetan yak racing

You've ridden a horse in Zelda, a pig in Tearaway, and a chocobo in Final Fantasy. But I bet you haven't ridden a yak.

Thought not. Well, you will in Mutant Labs's (of Half-Inch Heist fame) upcoming 2D racer Yak Dash (Horns of Glory).

Inspired by traditional yak racing in Tibet, Yak Dash will have you riding yaks across perilous mountains as quickly as you possibly can.

To do that, you'll have to smash through obstacles, leap across chasms, and discover shortcuts. You'll need quick reactions at all times, for it is a hybrid of a "time trial racer and a reaction-based runner".

As well as a series of unlockable mountain ranges in the single-player mode, there are "social mountains" that let you compete against friends.

Faring well in these multiplayer races will not only enable you to show off your customised yak and racer, but it will also improve your global ranking.

There aren't any more details for, or in-game images of, Yak Dash at the moment. However, you can check out the website and the images in the top right for a peek at its gorgeous art style.

Expect Yak Dash to race onto iOS and Android in August 2014. Squonk! (Apparently, that's the noise that yaks make.)
