Yomi is an intriguing looking game that's rather crept up on us.

It's based on a successful physical card game that was created by the lead designer of Street Fighter HD Remix, and is essentially a fighting game with decks instead of buttons.

The game has just landed on the App Store in New Zealand, which means it should be popping up in the UK at midnight tonight.

There are ten characters to choose from, and another ten available as DLC, each with their own unique selection of cards.

You need to throw these down to defeat your opponent before they smash your face in with their own deck of digital cardboard.

The game looks gorgeous, with chunky anime sprites representing the various pugilists, and your cards covered with painful looking special moves.

As well as scrapping with AI opponents you can fight in cross-platform battles with users of the web-based version of the game, and work your way up the leaderboard to show everyone else just how card work can pay off.

Yomi should be out later tonight, and if strategic card-based violence sounds like it might float your boat you'll be able to pick it up for £6.99 / $9.99.
