Sometimes in life you'll find yourself surrounded by terrifying skeletons waving massive axes and rusty swords.

No, wait, not in life, in Crusader Elite, a new hacky slashy arcade title for Android.

You play the titular crusader, who's not very good at moving, but makes up for it by being exceptionally proficient at violence.

The gameplay is stark and simple. You can slash in 4 ninety degree arcs by tapping around the four quarters of the screen.

Monsters and assailants come in from all angles and you need to cut them to bits before they smack you. You've got a little sliver of health and when that's gone it's game over.

As you attack you build up a special power. When it's ready a big fat button at the bottom of the screen flashes. Mash that and everything goes a bit bonkers for a while in the best possible way.

Everything's presented in gorgeous chunky pixels that make the game looked like a slightly zoomed in forgotten arcade classic from the late 80's. Which is a good thing.

There's a free version [download] that's just survival mode and gives you a taste of what the game has to offer, and for just 60p / $1.00 [buy] you can grab the full game which adds some extra modes into the mix.

And fret not iOS grumps, the game should be hitting the App Store pretty soon as well.
