As its name suggests, Quikding Software's iOS puzzler Cavesweeper is a mixture of Minesweeper, Nethack, and Diablo.

Another game it could be compared to is 1000000. Mainly because Cavesweeper is a retro-style dungeon-crawler that takes place on a grid-based puzzle.

As you move through the treacherous underground, you'll come across rats, spiders, and other typical enemies.

To beat them, you have to find all of the red and green squares in the grid. To begin with, these squares start off hidden.

By revealing a square with the right colour, you usually get a number. This tells you how many more squares of the same colour are adjacent to that square.

Unlike in Minesweeper, though, this number in Cavesweeper does not include the diagonal squares. So, keep that in mind.

If you put the wrong colour down on a square, then it acts as if an enemy has attacked. Consequently, your health bar starts to drain.

Along the way, you'll find gear in chests for better protection and attacks. Blacksmiths can upgrade it for you. For winning fights, by the way, you'll get coins to spend on potions, spells, and reinforcing items.

Cavesweeper isn't much of a looker... well, unless you love retro aesthetics. It makes up for that, though, with its potent cocktail of gameplay elements.

You can purchase Cavesweeper from the App Store and Google Play for 69p / 99c now.
