Those who can remember a time before Tokyopop wasn't struggling might recall a delightfully dark, gothic manga called Bizenghast.

Created by American author M. Alice LeGrow, Bizenghast follows the story of the teeny teen medium, Dinah, who spends her nights freeing ghosts trapped in a cursed mausoleum.

Dinah isn't a supernatural charity worker, however, as she herself is cursed. If she fails in her quest to free all of the ghosts, she'll die and join their ranks for all eternity.

Sounds like the sort of thing you can base a game around, eh? Well, that's what Cosmic Forces thought when it launched its Kickstarter for Bizenghast this month.

Cosmic Forces plans to reimagine Bizenghast as a fully 3D adventure puzzle game that stays true to LeGrow's story - which is easy to do, since she'll be working on the creative team and providing the voice acting for Dinah.

But one needn't be an uber-otaku to appreciate Bizenghast in its latest form. The Kickstarter adventure game will feature an all-new story with new characters, so there's no need to have any familiarity with the excellent source material it's based on to enjoy it.

Bizenghast will launch with somewhere between 10 and 20 hours of gameplay if it can raise its proposed budget of $125,000. The fifth stretch goal, $500,000, adds the second chapter while the sixth goal, $700,000, adds the third.

At current, Bizenghast's Kickstarter has raised about $10,000 and has a little over three weeks left in its campaign.
