1st chapter of LucasArts veteran's iPad adventure Perils of Man is out now for free

Perils of Man is a rather interesting point-and-click adventure, the first chapter of which is available on iOS right now for the brilliant price of nothing. Yep, it's completely free.

We first brought Perils of Man to your attention last year, mostly because veteran LucasArts artist Bill Tiller has a hand in this new game.

We also found out during our hands-on session with the game back in September that Perils of Man is basically an advergame.

To explain, insurance company Swiss Re is funding this new iOS game and adopting a particularly novel advertising approach while 'selling' it. There are no explicit adverts in this one, you see.

Instead, Swiss Re is using the game as "a PR exercise to illustrate that insurance premiums are scientifically derived measurements of probability and not, as you may previously have supposed, cynically derived measurements of how much money it's possible to wring out of consumers".

So, what's the game itself all about, then?

Well, you play as Ana Eberling, a teenager who discovers the "risk atlas". This machine is somehow linked to the disappearance of Ana's "rogue scientist" father.

From there, a globe-trotting adventure spanning 150 years ensues. As you go, you'll find out about the secret history of your family, prevent disasters, and solve a century-old mystery.
