A pretty Out There choice

The nicest thing you can say about February is that it's short.

Cold, distant, and full of grey days, February is short enough, though, to almost be over before it's begun.

Despite the grimness of the season, February was a bumper month for smartphone gaming. So much so that it was hard to pick a winner from the list of excellent iOS and Android games we presented you with last week.

After much soul searching, umming, aahing, and procrastination, you pulled up your britches, smoothed down your hair, and decided which of February's mobile crop was deserving of the title 'Game of the Month'.

And I can now exclusively reveal that the winner of the second PG Readers' Game of the Month award of 2014 is...

That's right: Mi-Clos Studios's space-wandering, element-juggling simulator was top of the polls once the tallies had been tallied and the numbers had been triple checked.

And it's a fine choice.

A huge sprawling universe awaits anyone brave enough to jump into the game's rickety spaceship. And while you will die over and over again, every fatality in this PG Gold Award-winning game opens up new possibilities and exciting horizons.

At review, we called Out There "a game of words and imagination, of simple taps and the events they set in motion. Of desperate attempts to suck hydrogen out of a gas giant before your engines stall."

If that sounds like something in which you'd like to engage, you can grab the game from the App Store for £2.49 / $3.99 [buy] and from Google Play for £2.99 / $3.99 [buy]. And you really, really should.
