Updated on February 27th at 09:15: Out There is now out on the Google Play Store as well, so Android gamers can get their hands on this deep and lonely space exploration sim for £2.99 / $3.99 [buy]. Original story follows...

Out There is a massive lonely space exploration sim that sees you jumping from planet to planet and exploring, discovering, and cutting your fingers off. And it's set to hit the UK and App Stores at midnight tonight.

It owes a lot to FTL: Faster Than Light, sure, but it puts its own stamp on the space travel sim, adding an aura of melancholy to proceedings. You're going to die a lot in Out There's universe.

The game is all about managing your spaceship, keeping the fuel tank topped up, fixing the hull, and digging up the minerals you need to keep flying.

There are alien races that you'll encounter; mystical space cubes from which to learn super-advanced technology; and space squid locked in energy cages to free or avoid.

Out There will be out there at midnight in the UK and US, and will set you back £2.49 / $3.99.
