Gotta match 'em all

Nintendo shows you how to match three-kachu in Pokemon Battle Trozei / Pokemon Link: Battle!

Pokemon Battle Trozei / Pokemon Link: Battle! was easily one of the more interesting games to sneak into Thursday's Nintendo direct.

Trozei / Link: Battle! shares its name with a 2006 DS release, so if you're a diehard poke-fan you can be forgiven for thinking it's a port.

Happily, it isn't - the upcoming eShop release of Trozei has more in common with Puzzle & Dragons than it does with Tetris (as the original 2006 release did).

It's super effective!

The eShop release of Pokemon Battle Trozei throws you into a series of match-three Pokemon battles.

As you form chains of three or more of the same Pokemon from the bottom screen, you'll do damage to your opponent's health points. Do enough damage, and you'll capture them.

Similar to mainstream Pokemon games, chains will deal damage based on their type and the type that they're facing - so keep your type charts handy!

Pokemon Battle Trozei mixes includes every known Pokemon from Red and Blue all the way up to the Platinum Award-winning Pokemon X and Y.

That's over 700 for those playing along at home, and that means you can battle against Charizard on one puzzle board and then try to capture Xerneas or Yveltal on the next.

Nintendo confirmed that Pokemon Battle Trozei will feature 10 main zones to play on. It's due out on the eShop on March 13 in Europe and March 20 in North America for $7.99.
