Climbing up a cliff isn't usually considered a relaxing activity, right?

That's exactly what it is in Nostalgia Dev's Cloudbreakers, however.

In this one-button game, you spin heroic characters around the jutting rocks of a cliff and then let go to fling them upwards.

Goat to be kidding

By collecting coins on the way up, you can purchase new characters that have larger leaps, find more coins, or start higher up the cliff.

In each new section of the cliff, new hazards are introduced. These include crumbly and slippy rocks, such as in the ice stage and Aztec stage.

Sometimes, you may get lucky and be butted upwards by a goat, so life balances out.

As mentioned earlier, Cloudbreakers is a 'chilled' game. There are fluffy clouds all around you, pink waterfalls, and deft musical touches. Furthermore, there are no adverts, IAPs, or push notifications. This was very important to the developers.

Czech Republic-based Nostalgia Dev consists of an ex-Disney couple. They decided to go indie in order to make the game they wanted, noting that they were also fed up of "horrendous monetisation systems".

"This is something we wouldn't be able to greenlight at Disney and everyone would laugh at us," Jan Tomasi of Nostalgia Dev writes on the Touch Arcade forums.

"But we are believers. We honestly think that there's still enough people willing to play such [a] game. That would gladly pay $1 to get rid off all this freemium nonsense."

To prove them right, consider purchasing Cloudbreakers on the App Store for 69p / 99c.
