Quest of Dungeons might be one of the most generic, turn-based, dungeon crawling roguelikes I've seen. But that's also its appeal.

Solo developer, David Amador, has infused touches of reflexive humour into the Quest of Dungeons trailer, acknowledging the familiarity of the game.

The gist of the game is that an evil lord has stolen all of the light, plunging everywhere into darkness.

You take on the role of a warrior, wizard, assassin, or shaman, and battle your way down through the lord's dungeons to restore light to the world.

Procedurally generated dungeons means that the game will be challenging on replays. Permadeath will probably ensure that replaying is something you're doing quite a lot, too.

Chances are, you've done this kind of thing in a game a few times before. But Amador's cheeky approach to the game's common mechanics and themes suggests that he knows what he's doing, and that he knows how to do it well.
The trailer for Quest of Dungeons certainly has it looking like a varied and challenging game.

Let's just hope that's the case when Quest of Dungeons arrives on Windows, Mac, and iOS in February. Not long to wait now.
