If you've been enjoying Michael Brough's Silver Award-winning cyberspace roguelike 868-Hack, then you'll be very interested in his next game, Helix.

Helix should be available on iOS later this year (once 868-Hack is out on PC). It's a one-touch game in which you play an eye that circles around its enemies to destroy them.

It's based in a small arena, so the enemies will come in from all sides and head straight for your fragile eye. By making even the slightest contact with any of the enemies, you will die. You'll just have to survive and rack up a score by killing your foe.

Because there aren't any instructions for Helix, it's as closed a book as 868-Hack is. The more you learn, however, the more discoveries you'll make. It won't be easy, though - Helix is one tough cookie.

Dizzying death

While playing it last year, I found out that you can only destroy the arrow-shaped enemies by circling around them in the direction the arrow points.

To eliminate other larger enemies, though, you'll have to circle them three times before they're destroyed.

There's also a speckled egg that releases butterflies into Brough's distinctive cyperspace arena. I thought they were allies at first, but it turns out I was wrong. Everything is hostile in Helix.

I never reached a boss during my playthrough last year, but there are plenty to take on here. Honestly, I can't wait to get some decent time alone with this game and give it a proper look.

As mentioned earlier, Helix should surface on iOS later this year. Probably in the second half of 2014.
