Archangel will be the first game released by Unity Games's newly formed mobile publishing division.

And Unity Games has just announced that the game will surface on the App Store and Google Play Store on January 9th.

For those of you who can't be bothered to look at a calendar, that's this Thursday.

The game itself, which is being developed by Black Tower, is a decent-looking dungeon-crawler in which you use touch controls to fire out bolts of magic and smash evil beasties in the face.

The more you kill, the more powerful you become. Plus, there are boss battles at the end of each level in which you take on powerful soldiers who tower over their minions.

There's a slightly repetitive tap-tap-tap rhythm to proceedings, mind, especially in the earlier stages (before you get hold of some of the more interesting gesture-based spells and attacks).

Furthermore, you'll sometimes kill a bad guy then sprint headlong into his friends on account of the fiddly controls.

Still, Archangel is a good-looking game, and there's plenty of content to tap your way through, with more spells and attacks to unlock and discover as you go.

There's adaptable difficulty, too, which should mean you'll never find things too easy.

Archangel will go live on the App Store and the Google Play Store on Thursday. We're not sure how much the game will cost, but we'll let you know when we do.
