Glorkian Warrior should bring silly alien shooting to iOS later this year

Glorkian Warrior is the result of indie developer Pixeljam teaming up with comic artist James "American Elf" Kochalka.

This 2D wave-based shooter has been on and off development over the past three years. But a recent tweet from Pixeljam announcing that Glorkian Warrior is nearing beta means that it might arrive on iOS in 2014.

There are plenty of reasons to get excited about Glorkian Warrior. Primarily, just look at the damn thing. The cartoon visuals drawn by Kochalka give the game a unique and amusing presence on-screen.

The gameplay may not be as distinct as the visuals, however. It's a wave-based vertical shooter. You'll move the three-eyed warrior left and right along the planet's surface while all kinds of strange aliens invade from above.

The shots are fired from the Super Backpack, which comes with plenty of upgrades, including "twisty lasers, fireballs and even flarf". I don't know what flarf is.

Kochalka has also supplied Glorkian Warrior with a humorous narrative told through cutscenes. Some of the characters encountered will also issue you with nonsensical quests to complete.

This will be Pixeljam's first iOS game, but you may remember the dev from the recently failed Dino Run 2 Kickstarter that we reported on. Hopefully no similar failings will prevent Glorkian Warrior from arriving on iOS this year, and Android soon after.
