Out at midnight: Strike Force Heroes: Extraction is a run-and-gun game with some neat new ideas

Strike Force Heroes: Extraction is an iOS version of some pretty popular Flash games.

Rather than being a direct port of these original web-based platformers, though, it's a runner. And its creator has thrown some pretty neat ideas in to keep the genre fresh.

You're sprinting away from helicopters, enemy soldiers, and plenty of other bad guys, blasting anything in front of you with weapons from a wide arsenal.

There are also cover-based firefights in which you dodge behind chunks of scenery to shoot at huge crowds of weapon-wielding enemy combatants. There are some more standard legging-it sections, too, mind.

With 20 characters to unlock; 33 weapons; three game modes; and a whole host of upgrades, buffs, and perks, there's lots to see, shoot, and do here.

The game is out in New Zealand right now, so it should be blasting onto the UK and US App Stores at midnight tonight. It'll set you back £1.49 / $1.99 if you're interested.
